How do you convince a passionate comic book fanbase that a television adaptation deserves their trust?
Helped establish Paper Girls as a premium Prime Video launch while building an engaged community before premiere.
This series was inspired by lead character Mac’s 1988 retro Walkman. We used ribbon from Mac’s cassette tapes to create contour drawings of the four lead girls.
Playing into the technology of the time, we used show images, rotating through different key backgrounds for each character, creating nostalgic and scroll-stopping pieces of content.
One Month: Using Mac’s iconic walkman, we created a suspense-filled piece that utilized show audio, teasing fans with a countdown to the premiere.
Two Weeks: This animated fortune teller again played intot the time period of the show, by using an age-appropriate game to tease fans prior to release.
Watch Now: Finally out in the world, this piece which was inspired by Episode 103, featured a beeper flashing the words “Paper Girls,” followed by “Now Streaming on Amazon Prime Video.”
For this series of assets, we chose to introduce our characters by bringing scenes from the comic to life with motion graphics that transform into clips from the show.
As an ode to the comic book covers, we used marketing shoot footage of talent to create a “moving portrait” by adding different backgrounds, creating a seamless loop.

To recognize the award-winning graphic novel, we recreated some of our favorite close-up panels, translating them into live action. These moments provided insight into how our leads were feeling when things are unraveling and served as an ode to the intentionally of the comics, which was mirrored in the series.

Using our stylized text, we created a review piece that showcases the wonderful critic comments on the series.
